What is JFT-Basic?

JFT-Basic (Japanese Foundation Test — Basic) measures A2 level Japanese proficiency for daily life and work readiness. It is a CBT (Computer-Based Test) administered by the Japan Foundation and is required to demonstrate language ability for Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa eligibility in Japan.

Real Exam — What You Need to Know

Registration & Scheduling

How to Register
Create a Prometric ID at Prometric Japan website using the exact name on your passport/ID.
Booking Window
Reservations open 59 days before exam date and close 3 business days before (4 days if the exam is on a weekend/holiday in Japan).
ID Requirements
Valid passport or national ID with photo. Name, passport number, and date of birth must exactly match your Prometric ID.
Arrive Early
Arrive at the test center 30 minutes before your scheduled start. Late arrivals will not be admitted.

Results & Retakes

Instant Results
Your score is displayed on-screen immediately after you complete the test.
Official Notice
Formal result certificate available on Prometric My Page within 5 business days after the exam.
Retake Policy
If you do not pass (score below 200), you may retake after a 45-day interval from your previous exam date.
Passing Score
200 out of 250 (scaled score). Results are displayed separately for each section.
